I will look around for them, give me some time.

**In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.**

**I agree with you regarding the satisfaction and importance of actually computing some numbers. I can't tell you how often I see time and money wasted because someone didn't bother to run the numbers.**

hi Mandy,

I've just logged on.

If you give me a moment I will mark your fractions and tell you how many you have got right.

Then we can work through any that need correcting.

OK?

stay on line please.

Right. Let's hope it works this time.

Your fractions are nearly all correct now but .....

I'll tick completely right in green.

And if part of a question is wrong, I'll make that bit red . The rest of the line is correct!

(1) 1/2 = 3/4 or 12/24

(2) 1/3 = 2/4 or 8/24

(3) 2/3 = 16/24 tick

(4) 3/4 = 3/6 or 18/24

(5) 5/12 = NO tick

(6) 2/6 = 1/3 or 2/4 or 8/24

(7) 8/24 = 1/3 or 2/4 or 2/6

(8) 16/24 = 2/3 tick

(9) 18/24 = 3/6 or 2/9 where did 9 come from?

(10) 7/24 = NO tick

You should try to correct Q9. Hint. Look at Q4

I think you need more practice with fractions.

**I think you should try to do a correction for Q9 (hint look at Q4)**

Can you print my picture so you have it on paper?

If you can, I'll make you some flash cards that you can print off.

Meanwhile you can practice fractions at these places:

Making a time plan:

Get a calendar.

Put a big "EXAM TODAY" in the days when you have exams.

Count up how many days from now until then.

**Try to set aside some time every day for studying. **

Decide how much time you can spend each day.

Write in how much you actually do at the end of each day.

If it is less than you should have done, make up for it the next day by doing more. There are bound to be days when you just cannot spend the right amount of time, but try to keep up the average.

**Make a list of all the topics you must get good at.**

Share out the list amongst the days you have, so you can see that, if you keep to the plan, you will complete the list in time.

Plan also to try past exam papers. One per week would be good. If I know what paper you have done and you post your answers here, I can do two things for you:

(i) tell you roughly what grade you would get if that was the real thing,

(ii) give some help with the bits you got wrong / couldn't do.

If you keep that up, you will gradually see your grade improving, I'm sure.

Good morning Mandy,

I've made 4 cards. If this is what you want I'll make more.

I've put a picture for the fraction, with the numbers and words.

If you cut out each one and **fold it in half and stick it**, you'll have the writing **on the back.**

So you can look at a picture, say what fraction it is, and then turn over to see if you were correct.

Or you can read what fraction is required and draw the picture, then turn over to see if you are correct.

And later, when I've made lots more, you can shuffle up all the cards and then sort them out into piles that are the same.

And I can add decimals and percentages later too.

**Let me know if you would like me to make more.**

I'll be out in the garden this morning, but I'll log in around 1pm.

hi Mandy,

Please put a ruler on your laptop screen and **measure how long and wide** each card is for you. Then post back the measurements. Say **cm or inches** I don't mind which, but say.

I'll start making more cards.

Can I help somehow? Make a timetable or something? Do you need any help?

Hi Mandy,

I'll make those cards again the size you have said.

And some more tomorrow.

I've got the exam syllabus.

It has a list of all the things you have to be able to do.

**Have you got this list?**

I have also been looking at what special arrangements are allowable for candidates who have a specific learning difficulty.

I would like to ask you about your dyslexia and how it affects your learning.

**Would you be prepared to answer questions about this.**

If you would like** I can send you a private message about your dyslexia** so you do not have to tell everyone who might read this post.

hi everybody,

My router keeps tripping out so I lose the connection.

If the forum 'says' I'm logged in and it all goes quiet, that's why.

The difficulty is deciding whether it is a faulty router or my broadband connection that is at fault. The last time this happened (last summer) it was because bt had plugged the wrong device in to my line at the telephone exchange. No point buying a new router if it's the line.

It seems to be worse in the evenings so maybe the exchange cannot handle the extra demand.

???????

Hi bob

Is it on the new laptop or the old one? I don't remember if you got the new one yet.

If you are on the new one than,I don't know, but I would suggest trying to call someone to see if the cables or whatever are wrongly connected.Hope you get it fixed soon!
