Nice find.  Thanks!  He could also be found in Gardner Mass microfiche of newspapers, since he came from there.  We have clippings!

Yeah, I've had fun with it at a few colleges here and there.  Not all newpapers are on the net yet probably, so it still is viable.

I used to play in a band when I was just a teenager called the Monadnock Dixieland Express.
You used to be able to get some microfiche up on the screen in a pdf I think from google with
["Monadnock Dixieland Express"], but now I think you just get my boolean algebra page.

Lou Dumont recorded our band and played it in our area on a Sunday Night on
collectible classics show, so he probably still has the recording.  As for me, I
only have recordings from about 5 years later when the band members changed
a bit and we played more types of jazz than just dixieland.  Eventually I became
too busy with computer programming work, and had to leave the band, besides
the band wanted to stop reading music, and playing by ear, so it was a good
time to leave, since I didn't have that talent much back then.  All of the
written music is in the hands of my brother, a cornet/trumpet player now,
and we have plans to start a new dixieland band and have practiced a few
times this year.

Hasn't crossed my mind before.
Maybe I should contact Lou Dumont,
hopefully he is still alive, since I
like the old band better than the
newer one.  If I look through all my
storage, I might find an old tape
of the MDE band.  And I have
digitized tapes before, so that's
not a problem.

I started on clarinet, but I like experimenting on the trombone now.
I still play the clarinet, but playing by ear is about 80% perfect,
so that leaves many wrong notes.  However, with the trombone,
it is more natural for me, and may turn into my instrument of
choice say 10 years from now if I keep practicing...

I know this is late, but I happened to stumble upon this post. Turns out Charles, or "Whitey" as he goes by, is my next door neighbor. He still loves to talk about his career with NASA and how he got to push the button. Did it for all the odd numbered Apollo missions (except 13). His favorite is the one when he came back in to work after Apollo 11 and found his button was missing. Someone had cut it out, mounted it on a plaque, and presented it to someone...(I think Nixon?). Super nice guy. He came over and pulled the leaves out of my gutter for my wife while I was away a few weeks ago. And he has a beautiful flower garden that he lets my kids play in.
