Altough

is not a number and it is impossible to count to infinity, 0.9(1 second) 0.99(2 seconds) 0.999(3 seconds) seconds)Offline

Anthony, take a look at this:

1.00000000...

- 0.99999999...

= 0.00000000...

Since the number of zero's is infinite, it is the same as writing 0 as there can't be anything after the infinitely many zero's (just as 1.000... is the same as 1, or 5.5999... = 5.6). Thus, there is no difference between 1 and 0.999... they are the same thing!

As pointed out already, there is no such thing as 0.0000...1. The only thing it proofs is that you don't understand the concept of infinity.

If you still don't believe it, prove us wrong. Otherwise none will take you seriously.

Bang postponed. Not big enough. Reboot.

Actually, it's not so much of the concept of infinity that is incorrect. Anthony continues to state that 0.999... somehow grows. How real numbers grow, well, you got me.

"In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..."

I must write a page on infinity.

I am thinking of starting:

"Infinity is not a big number, it is not a HUGE number, it is not a GINORMOUS number, in fact it is not even a number ... it is a CONCEPT of something without end."

"Infinity is not a big number, it is not a HUGE number, it is not a GINORMOUS number, in fact it is not even a number ... it is a CONCEPT of something without end."

Even that ain't always true. But it is for the reals.

One important thing to address is the idea of different types of infinities. I saw an argument which was taken much off of Cantor's diagonal proof, but much simpler. Let me see if I can find it again...

"In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..."

So there we have it! A simple counter Proof to any Proof put forward so far, that says Infintite 0.9 = 1

Unless someone can actually say how many .9s there are! Or it takes for Infinite 0.9 to be! Or to equal 1,then its impossible for them to say they have a Proof!

But if someone has found the number Please insert your number in the Brackets below!

Infinite 0.9 ( How many .9s there are! Or it takes to = ) 1 ?

So I guess that the official notation for this would be

lim(.999...)=1

Tell me if I am using the limit wrongly.

That is not a counter proof, that is just being stubborn.

Hi! simron! or should that be "stillwrong" just to let you know! you are still wrong,

it should be Endless(.999...)<>1 because no one knows How many .9s there are! Or it takes to = ) 1 ? ie so far no limit!!

Maybe we should try this step by step.

Anthony, what is the result when you divide 1 by 3, in decimals?

Please let Anthony answer.

Erh! I reckon the true Answer has an Infinite number of Decimal Places!!

Well, now its obvious that Anthony is just trolling. Asking the same questions over an over again, not listening to answers, and never even attempting to answer our questions.

To Ricky!

I asked the Question first!!

Infinite 0.9 ( How many .9s there are! Or it takes to = ) 1 ?

Does that mean you refuse to answer any questions I ask on the topic?

Sorry, but if you won't extend me the courtesy of answering my questions, why should I do so to you? Besides, I have already tried.

Anthony you are beyond reach man. Ricky is trying to explain why your answer can't be answered(because it simply **doesn't make sense**) by asking you a question in return.

To Ricky!

Ok lets do this 1/3 = Infinite 0.33333333333333333333...................

Agreed! and....Infinite 0.9 = 0.99999999999999999999................... which you say = 1

So if you are correct then Infinite 0.3333333333333333.................. must = > 0.3

What happens when you multiply both sides by 3?

What kinda of logic are you applying here? I could understand you, if we were saying that 0.99... = 0.9 but we're not

Incase you dont understand the Above!

If one Infinite number,is or becomes another number from the number it started as! ie Infinite 0.9 (stage one) becomes or is some how equal to 1 ?

then surley using your Logic! all Infinte numbers! ie Infinite 0.3 (stage one) must also do the same!!
