swearing...(bad language)some of the people i know..keep on swearing..i dont get it...whats the point of swearing ??!!??i asked this gurl tht why she swore so much..she said because it LOOKS or SOUNDS COOL!! Nottygurl #2 2006-05-24 05:03:47
Re: swearing...(bad language)I think that when you swear on this forum, the swear word shouldn't be exchanged with the word "math" as this confuses the reader. I think that something along the lines of square bracket, inappropriate word has been sensored, closed bracket, would be better. Ideally, no sensoring should be automatically done by a computer because it creates an environment where information about math cannot be communicated in an efficient manner. Why do we sensor words, MIF? Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #3 2006-05-24 07:36:22
Re: swearing...(bad language)You're right, hebs_peace, swear words shouldn't be used to make one sound cool. But instead, if they are used appropriately, they can be used to express emotion, which is one of the purposes of language. "In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..." #4 2006-05-24 08:21:18
Re: swearing...(bad language)Swearing to be cool? That must be the definition of "cool" that means slavishly copying what everyone else does so as to fit in (see Stereotype) ... ! Re: swearing...(bad language)Hey, you know what would be really fun! Create a translator that attempts to convert these inappropriate phrases and single and pairs of words into reasonable expressions of similar meaning. I'm not good at swears, but it would be neat! But if it was translated, there should be an obvious accompanying note that says this was not the original wording for the post. That's only fair to say that the post has been altered. Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #6 2006-05-24 19:32:39
Re: swearing...(bad language)Funny! Short word becomes a long explanation! We could make it as dry and involved as possible as a punishment. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #7 2006-05-25 02:43:35
Re: swearing...(bad language)You know replacing the F-word with feet might be funny. A logarithm is just a misspelled algorithm. #8 2006-05-25 03:46:58
Re: swearing...(bad language)Or you could mix up the letters of the swear to make it cryptic or show s*e*r in place of swear. Imagine for a moment that even an earthworm may possess a love of self and a love of others. #9 2006-05-25 07:39:34

What the feet! How did you think of that feeting idea? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #10 2006-05-25 22:23:06
Re: swearing...(bad language)S word- socks? Chaos is found in greatest abundance wherever order is being saught. It always defeats order, because it is better organized. #11 2006-05-26 03:10:50

Re: swearing...(bad language)
i can remember in worms armageddon (a game) if you had the swear filter on, then the f-word would be changed to 'love' when i reinstalled i forgot to disable it, and i was becoming quite confused The Beginning Of All Things To End. The End Of All Things To Come. #13 2006-05-28 10:53:58
