Re: The MacArthur FoundationI think we really need to get the sphere thing right from the beginning. Also, I think it could be interresting if we could have more sphere's, almost like a universe. #27 20061201 02:33:27
Re: The MacArthur FoundationI think if we create an entire universe we will have to rely much more on other essential things like intergalactic economy and physics of space travel, and the really tricky bit will be making a game like that accomodate all ability levels. Re: The MacArthur FoundationOK, to be a sphere we need to master the coordinates so that I can do a database lookup to find all nearby people and objects. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #29 20061201 18:33:07
Re: The MacArthur Foundation
Ah...it's always when I use special characters it ends up showing up as an alt code. #30 20061201 19:45:48
Re: The MacArthur FoundationOooooh, ooh, oooooh! #31 20061201 21:39:47
Re: The MacArthur FoundationHeehee, justlookingforth. That actually sounds kind of OK. And you've somehow managed to get yourself on there twice as well. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #32 20061201 21:45:18
Re: The MacArthur FoundationYou are the best testers! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #33 20061202 08:48:14
Re: The MacArthur FoundationI have been thinking that a torus may work better. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #34 20061202 16:07:38
Re: The MacArthur FoundationHuh, how do I change my position? I can't move from 0, 0. I type my coordinates in and press refresh, but the position in the box doesn't change. #35 20061202 17:22:35
Re: The MacArthur FoundationTry now ... Oh! and we have a Devant and a Devant%E9. The joys of software development. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #36 20061202 17:37:34
Re: The MacArthur FoundationThere's two of me too, now. Yes, I think it's working now for me but in a weird way. To see the text at the bottom of the dialog box I have to highlight the text and continue dragging down the text, until it scrolls. #37 20061208 14:20:48
Re: The MacArthur FoundationI might give a little more time to this maybe make the player a dot on a graph, so you can move around. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #38 20061208 18:30:38
Re: The MacArthur FoundationI think my (and others') ideas would be more useful if I actually understood more about the overall plan you have in mind. I mean, I could put down a lot of suggestions which may or may not be related to the plan you have in mind and hence a great majority would be irrelevant. Re: The MacArthur FoundationHmm ... well, I don't have a plan, really. I was hoping that it would be a community project. But since it will be hosted on the forum then I need to handle the "back end" and that is what I tested out. Re: The MacArthur FoundationJust an update. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #41 20061216 22:00:01

Re: The MacArthur FoundationVery nice! #43 20061217 14:19:51
Re: The MacArthur FoundationYeah, it is very basic. And slow. Flash is very slow at calculations at least 100 times slower than java. But I am trying to prove concepts here. So the game migth be in java, or in Flash 9 (which I am told is much faster). "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Re: The MacArthur FoundationVery good. Still only basic, but very impressive. #45 20061217 21:01:13

Re: The MacArthur FoundationTeleporting is hard to comprehend. Why not have a person and phone boot at every building? Smoke signals? Arrow messaging? Either you have posted in the wrong thread or you've lost me. #50 20061219 19:37:19
Re: The MacArthur Foundation
Perhaps you could build an AI that "sells your profit" for you, and then, after enough time, the robot becomes free and becomes a player just like you. Is that somewhat plausible?
