Definitions Your Help NeededI am reaching the final stages of a large project to make a simple Illustrated Mathematics Dictionary. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #2 20060928 18:50:57
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededWould it be possible to change the dictionary or make another version of it so that all the definitions were on the same page? That'd make it far easier to proofread and in some cases, easier to use as well. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #3 20060928 19:03:21
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededLooking good, as always.
I tried typing 'converging lines' and searching and it said it didn't match any documents. Am I using the correct search function? #4 20060928 19:41:00
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededWow, good feedback so far! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #5 20060928 19:49:01
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededThey are Really Of GreaT Knowledge :p Be Happy! #6 20060929 01:54:27
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededJust a little thing you might want to add, that natural numbers, integers, rational numbers..., are noted with a blackboard N, Z, Q... Besides that, it's looking pretty good #7 20060929 03:03:31
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededBut the N, Q, Z, etc. aren't just normal capital letters. They've got double lines in places to make them look extra important. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #8 20060929 03:26:06
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededi think it looks really kl. well done! Presenting the Prinny dance. Take this dood! Huh doood!!! HUH DOOOOD!?!? DOOD HUH!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #9 20060929 04:48:17
Re: Definitions Your Help Needed
thats why I said blackboard N, Q and Z... #10 20060929 05:31:32
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededwhy is n q and z more important? Presenting the Prinny dance. Take this dood! Huh doood!!! HUH DOOOOD!?!? DOOD HUH!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #11 20060929 05:45:49#12 20060930 01:57:14
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededsets? or do you mean nets? nets are the layout of a 3d shape Presenting the Prinny dance. Take this dood! Huh doood!!! HUH DOOOOD!?!? DOOD HUH!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #13 20060930 02:36:57
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededNo, sets. Like a set of even numbers would be { 2, 4, 6 8, 10}. Or a set of clothes would be { Jeans, socks, jogging bottoms, shoes, jumpers, tshirts } etc. You will study this in a few years. I don't remember which I did first, though Group theory or set theory. #14 20060930 05:31:28
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededooooooo i thought u meant nets! Presenting the Prinny dance. Take this dood! Huh doood!!! HUH DOOOOD!?!? DOOD HUH!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #15 20060930 05:43:52
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededWell, n q and z have nothing to do with nets. O_o #16 20060930 05:50:17
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededI meant sets A set is a collection of elements, like devanté showed before. Sets are conventionally denoted with capital letters. You could for example consider the set A={1,2,3,4} or Y={} (empty set, also denoted Ø). Some sets are used often however, for example the set of integers, and because of that you use a font called blackboard bold. ℤ represents the integers (the z comes from the german word Zahlen which means numbers). Last edited by Patrick (20060930 05:51:38) #17 20060930 05:51:00

Re: Definitions Your Help NeededBecause sets are in everyday life. Why, you are a set yourself. And so am I. And everyone else on the forum, and in the whole world. In fact, existence itself is probably the biggest set imaginable...I think. #19 20060930 05:54:46
Re: Definitions Your Help NeededOh, and how did you get that ℤ? Did you use an alt code? I'll check the character map. #20 20060930 06:08:25
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededcant remember, copied it off some document or website, but can't seem to find it again #21 20060930 15:59:23
Re: Definitions Your Help Neededits an alt code Presenting the Prinny dance. Take this dood! Huh doood!!! HUH DOOOOD!?!? DOOD HUH!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #22 20060930 20:30:50
Re: Definitions Your Help Needed"Those letters" are used to denote the different 'kind' of numbers we have. Natural numbers, Integers, Rational numbers, and so on.. The importance of being able to use these sets should be obvious. #23 20060930 20:33:57
