another word problem I am having trouble with...

How much did a dishwasher orginally cost if a 35% profit was made and the buyer paid $670?

Is this how you would set it up?

(x)(.35) + x = 670, if x is the original cost of the dishwasher?

Yes, that's it exactly.   Simplifying it:

1.35x = 670
x =~ $496.30
