Re: General Quiz

Hi,

#7259. Name the element, because it is highly reactive, it is never found as a free element on Earth. It has a concentration in the Earth's crust of about one gram per kilogram (compare copper at about 0.06 grams). With few exceptions, minerals containing the element are in the maximally oxidized state as inorganic phosphate rocks.

#7260. Name the village on the Swedish island of Resarö, in Vaxholm Municipality in the Stockholm archipelago. Today the residential area is dominated by suburban homes.

The name of the village translates to "outer village". It is perhaps most famous for being the single richest source of elemental discoveries in the world; the chemical elements yttrium (Y), ytterbium (Yb), erbium (Er) and terbium (Tb) are all named after it.

Re: General Quiz

Hi,

Borax bead

A small loop is made in the end of a platinum or nichrome wire and heated in a Bunsen burner flame until red hot. A stick made of another inert substance such as a magnesia stick (MgO) may also be used. It is then dipped into powdered borax and held in the hottest part of the flame where it swells up as it loses its water of crystallization and then shrinks, forming a colourless, transparent glass-like bead (a mixture of sodium metaborate and boric anhydride).

The bead is allowed to cool and than wetted and dipped into the sample to be tested such that only a tiny amount of the substance adheres to the bead. If too much substance is used, the bead will become dark and opaque. The bead and adhering substance is then heated in the lower, reducing, part of the flame, allowed to cool, and the colour observed. It is then heated in the upper, oxidizing, part of the flame, allowed to cool, and the colour observed again.

Characteristic coloured beads are produced with salts of copper, iron, chromium, manganese, cobalt and nickel. After the test, the bead is removed by heating it to fusion point, and plunging it into a vessel of water.

#7261. Name the color in Metal in Oxidizing flame and Reducing flame of Cobalt.

#7262. Name the color in Metal in Oxidizing flame and Reducing flame of Chromium.

#7266. What is also referred to as the "Channel Slam" - still arguably the sport's biggest challenge?

Hi,

#7267. What is the motto of Forbes magazine?

#7268. In 1922, DeWitt Wallace started the magazine while he was recovering from shrapnel wounds received in World War I. Wallace had the idea to gather a sampling of favorite articles on many subjects from various monthly magazines, sometimes condensing and rewriting them, and to combine them into one magazine.

The magazine's format for several decades consisted of 30 articles per issue (one per day), along with a vocabulary page, a page of "Amusing Anecdotes" and "Personal Glimpses", two features of funny stories entitled "Humor in Uniform" and "Life in these United States", and a lengthier article at the end, usually condensed from a published book.

Name the magazine.

#7272. Name the  interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language. Created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, it's design philosophy emphasizes code readability with its notable use of significant whitespace. Its language constructs and object-oriented approach aim to help programmers write clear, logical code for small and large-scale projects.

Hi,

#7277. Along with nearby Bratislava, it forms a metropolitan region with 3 million inhabitants. In 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In July 2017 it was moved to the list of World Heritage in Danger. Apart from being regarded as the City of Music, because of its musical legacy, it is also said to be "The City of Dreams" because it was home to the world's first psychoanalyst – Sigmund Freud. Name the city.

#7278. Name the city : In 1865, Wellington became the capital city in place of this city, which William Hobson had made the capital in 1841. The New Zealand Parliament had first met in Wellington on 7 July 1862, on a temporary basis; in November 1863, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Alfred Domett, placed a resolution before Parliament in the city that "... it has become necessary that the seat of government ... should be transferred to some suitable locality in Cook Strait [region]."

Hi,

#7283. Name the  domain-specific language used in programming and designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS), or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system (RDSMS).

#7284. Name the general-purpose, compiled imperative programming language that is especially suited to numeric computation and scientific computing. Originally developed by IBM in the 1950s for scientific and engineering applications, it came to dominate this area of programming early on and has been in continuous use for over six decades in computationally intensive areas such as numerical weather prediction, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, computational physics, crystallography and computational chemistry. It is a popular language for high-performance computing and is used for programs that benchmark and rank the world's fastest supercomputers.

Hi,

#7295. Name the string instrument known for its use in Greek classical antiquity and later periods. It is similar in appearance to a small harp but with distinct differences.
In organology, it is defined as a "yoke lute", being a lute in which the strings are attached to a yoke that lies in the same plane as the sound-table and consists of two arms and a cross-bar.
In Ancient Greece, recitations of lyric poetry were accompanied by it playing.
