About the ExercisesWelcome to the Exercises section of the forum "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #2 20060718 16:24:23
Re: About the ExercisesThanks, Devanté, that is a great start. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #3 20060718 16:31:36
Re: About the ExercisesNo problem. I just got a little confused when you said 'number the excercises'. #4 20060722 08:25:17
Re: About the ExercisesThree cheers for Devanté! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #5 20060722 17:00:13
Re: About the ExercisesAnd three cheers for MathsIsFun, who made this forum under the title of 'Exercises'! #6 20060725 21:41:13
Re: About the ExercisesI think it would be a good idea to post a link in each topic(the top of the first post in each topic) to a page on mathsisfun.com that relates to what is being exercised(if there is one). Fx in Basic Percentages, you'd have the following link: Learn about Percentages! #7 20060725 22:10:38
Re: About the ExercisesAs this board increases in both the amount of exercise topics and branches of mathematics covered, perhaps subboards should be created in order to help sort out the exercises. For example, opening the "Exercises" board leads the user to another directory, with different boards for different subjects, such as "Arithmetic", "Algebra", "Geometry", "Calculus", etc. I suggest this because as the exercise board grows and some topics start getting kicked a page or two back, people are going to be less likely to notice them and they'll be "wasted". Also, it'll help users find what they need easier. #8 20060725 23:01:16
Re: About the ExercisesPatrick: Good idea! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #9 20060726 03:58:14
Re: About the ExercisesYeah, I agree. A subforum would be good. Especially as there are too many topics... #10 20060726 07:41:30
Re: About the ExercisesBut so far Devanté has been doing nearly all the contributions ... "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #11 20060726 13:19:41
Re: About the ExercisesI'd like to write some calculustype exercises, but I feel like if I did that now, it wouldn't really fit yet, it's a big jump from the current level of material. Maybe I should try some lighter stuff first? #12 20060726 14:03:55
Re: About the Exercises
What if exercises were removed from "Teaching Maths and given their own section so that there could be Algebra, Trig, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, etc forums? You can shear a sheep many times but skin him only once. #13 20060726 14:07:53
Re: About the ExercisesZhylliolom, feel free to post away. Hopefully in the future the gap will be filled, but that isn't something you should worry about now. "In the real world, this would be a problem. But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist. So we'll go ahead and do that now..." #14 20060727 02:22:43
Re: About the ExercisesJust posted an excercise on probability. #15 20060810 22:06:02
Re: About the ExercisesJust needed to ask this Should we keep the difficulty of the excercises at a certain level? #16 20060811 07:40:37
Re: About the ExercisesSo long as they fit within the title of the topic. If it is a *little* harder than the topic states, you could always have something like: "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #18 20060817 22:47:09
Re: About the ExercisesI think people may be shy to post their answers we haven't really said they can. Should we say "answer them!" ... ? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #19 20060818 00:59:27
Re: About the ExercisesHmm...we'll have to get the message across so everyone knows that these are for everyone's use, and people can post here...otherwise all my work (and everyone else's) is for nothing. :\ #20 20060819 09:03:20
Re: About the ExercisesI have moved this near the top of the forum list, because it now has a good lot of exercises. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #21 20060822 18:17:25
Re: About the ExercisesGood thinking. #22 20060822 20:46:41
Re: About the ExercisesWell, you have helped people with all the exercises you have posted so far ... keep up the good work. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." Leon M. Lederman #23 20060822 20:53:02
Re: About the ExercisesI wonder if members are actually using the exercises? I doubt one post in one of the topics can attract over a hundred views in a week or so Unless we have some weird Google Spiders or MSN Bots. #25 20060826 19:39:17
Re: About the Exercisesim using them sometimes, but i dont post all answers, i just use them to practise. but many of these exercises are things that i have never seen before :p. an introduction on each exercises or a link to how to do it would be really great, then i can maybe learn something new. Anyway keep up the good work =p Last edited by Kurre (20060826 19:55:21)
