World Cup 2006

So, who's watching the Soccer?

Got a favorite team?

These are my guesses for the groups (1st then 2nd):

Group A: Germany and Costa Rica
Group B: England and Paraguay
Group C: Netherlands and Argentina
Group D: Mexico and Iran
Group E: Italy and USA
Group F: Brazil and Australia
Group G: France and Korea
Group H: Spain and Saudi Arabia

Put up your guesses, too ... smile

Re: World Cup 2006

I am trying to avoid it, as people have gone crazy about it where i live. I got into maths this morning, (I am the only girl in the class) and all the boys were taking tatics, and players and I didn't have a clue about it.:o

England didn't even score a goal. They're lame.

I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

True! Yet they won 1:0.

I thought the USA would do better, but they lost to the Czechs. And Australia beat Japan!

Re: World Cup 2006

I saw 30 minutes of games so far and it is awesome!  I love soccer.  I used to play soccer on hour lunch breaks from Markem in Keene, NH, in the early 90's.  I also played soccer in 6th grade or so (age 11).   I saw a replay video of two players rolling the ball backwards to each other around opponents!  Really amazing footwork!

Brazil just got a goal on Croatia at 43:30 into the game!!
It's 1-0.  I'm watching on TV and internet, but the internet is 55 seconds behind the TV.

Guy in center of photo just headed the ball.
See ball to the right and its shadow below it.
About 10 minutes into Spain vs. Ukraine.

I don't know if Spain or Ukraine won since it was in another language.
Here is a happiness photo after a goal.

Re: World Cup 2006

The two pictures are shown in reverse order below; I don't know why...

Tunisia started off the game against Saudi Arabia at 16:00 UTC today (June 14, 2006).
Tunisia gets first goal.  In second half, Saudi ties it, then gains lead near end.
Then see picture of Saudi player praying to keep lead.
Then after 92 minutes, Tunisia ties the game up again, and see picture for this final tie.
Hard to see where the ball is in the photo when I hit the print-screen key with Gadwin PrintScreen.
Then game ended at about 4:14 or something after 90:00, but I don't know why it ends then.
It was a tie, 2-2.

Re: World Cup 2006

Thanks for the shots, John. I love the guy praying!

The extra time is "stoppage time" (to make up for time wasted during the game, such as when the guys walk on and off during substitution), and totally under the control of the referee.

Re: World Cup 2006

In an amazing twist of fortune - it was a draw!

Both England and Sweden are through to next round.

Sweden plays Germany next.

England plays Ecauador next.
