I am making progress of sorts. The trouble is that I can't test the images without going "live".
So sometime over Easter I will have to do some development work "live" on the forum. So, if you notice things are weird then it is probably me

I *think* it is fine now, and have done lots of testing, but it is kinda impossible to test for everything ...

Just persistence.
I use the standard latex that comes with linux, so the only creative thing I have done is to integrate it with the forum.
So when you type some latex, my software grabs the text, puts it into a file with some other standard commands, runs the latex command on the server, takes the results and then has to reformat them for the forum, then copies them to the right location and hey presto you see the image!

JCL is the "Job Control Language" for IBM Mainframes. It has statements like "//CTRLTABL DD DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.FOCUS.MSO.MSOPROF(CTRLTABL)"
I was advised by someone that the way to write JCL was to find someone else who had managed to do the same thing and copy it. And they were serious.
The entry in "shoot in the foot" for JCL is: "You shoot yourself in the head just thinking about it."
