yeah, we can type matrix now!

\displaystyle to enlarge the []

\left[ to define left bracket

\begin{array}{c} to define matrix centered

1,0,0\\0,1,0\\0,0,1 entries and rows

\end{array}

\right]

**X'(y-Xβ)=0**

Give me time, I am still working on it.

(BTW can someone give me 30 hours in a day?)

I am making progress of sorts. The trouble is that I can't test the images without going "live".

So sometime over Easter I will have to do some development work "live" on the forum. So, if you notice things are weird then it is probably me

In which case you can hang around and laugh at my attempts, or come back later. Your choice.

Oh, and feel free to tell me of any weirdness you notice. I may know all about it, in which case I will probably say "I know", but if not then it may help me debug things.

And even more testing:

Well done MathIsFun!

Thank you! It took a few days to sort out the interactions of the math tag, code tag and hide tag.

I *think* it is fine now, and have done lots of testing, but it is kinda impossible to test for everything ...

BTW I made one other small but very useful improvement

I noticed that improvement when I tried to copy your latex. You are talking about how you can click on latex and get to the code, right? Great idea.

More testing:

Works really well for lining up the equals sign too.

Can you do something like this?:

IPBLE: Increasing Performance By Lowering Expectations.

MIF you are so creative! How did you do it?

**X'(y-Xβ)=0**

Just persistence.

I use the standard latex that comes with linux, so the only creative thing I have done is to integrate it with the forum.

So when you type some latex, my software grabs the text, puts it into a file with some other standard commands, runs the latex command on the server, takes the results and then has to reformat them for the forum, then copies them to the right location and hey presto you see the image!

Mastering? I wish!

More like stumbling around in the dark looking for the light switch. Eventually the light goes.

Stumbling, of course, because you shot yourself in the foot

What a great list!

I like Postscript: "foot bullets 6 locate loadgun aim gun shoot showpage"

And Java: "You locate the Gun class, but discover that the Bullet class is abstract, so you extend it and write ... and call the doShoot method on the instance of the Gun class ... and the instance of Bullet is passed to the Foot. But this causes an IllegalHitByBullet exception to be thrown, and you die."

This *should* be the one for Perl:

You write the algorithm to shoot yourself in the foot. A week later, when you go to run it, you realize there is a bug. Looking at the source code, you have no idea what it actually does anymore.

(Perl is often called a 'Write-only' language)

Ahaaaa! A space can be added!

Try this one:

**X'(y-Xβ)=0**

JCL is the "Job Control Language" for IBM Mainframes. It has statements like "//CTRLTABL DD DISP=SHR,DSN=SYS1.FOCUS.MSO.MSOPROF(CTRLTABL)"

I was advised by someone that the way to write JCL was to find someone else who had managed to do the same thing and copy it. And they were serious.

The entry in "shoot in the foot" for JCL is: "You shoot yourself in the head just thinking about it."
