More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

Before I start talking, let me see how many of you know Jules Gilbert. Please do not look him up yet.

Sorry, never heard of him.

The compression guy?

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

As opposed to WEB Technologies, Jules Gilbert <jules@aasp.net> does not
claim to compress *all* files, but only "random or random-appearing" files.
Here are some quotes from a few of Mr Gilbert's articles, which can be helpful
to get a better idea of his claims. No comments or conclusions are given; if
you need more information contact Mr. Gilbert directly.

I shall post a email conversation between some guy called Mark and Jules Gilbert. I pity the fact that the so-called genius Mark never actually wishes to see the experiment. What if Mathematics is Kaboobly Doo? What if Jules is actually right?

Do not be afraid. The transcript will not contain any inappropiate content. smile

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

I have read most of that before.

What if Mathematics is Kaboobly Doo? What if Jules is actually right?

What if he is wrong?

You should read Underwood Dudley's book before you go any further with guys like that.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

He says that he has evidence. It is much more important than any math analysis.

You gave me this viewpoint, remember. ^^^

He was denied a chance to present his evidence.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

Before we go over those points you should have both sides of the argument. Find and read Dudley's book.

You gave me this viewpoint, remember.

I appreciate that you remember something of our conversations. I only wish you would be applying it where it belongs.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

It belongs to computer science.

How can I get that book? Does reading it require the expenditure of a lot of time and energy?

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

Yes, it is a difficult book to read.

It belongs to computer science.

You should be using those ideas on computational mathematics not on the ravings of 2 fanatics.

that has been considered many times. The other side is rarely viewed.

I am not defending either side.

Mathematics is beautiful, mathematicians are not. Science is beautiful, scientists are not.

i am not defending any side, either.

I am just saying that he needs to be given a chance.

Do you not believe in cause and effect?

I am not a mathematician and do not want to be one.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

The Dudley book illustrates it well. If you are not a mathematician and make a great discovery they are not even going to listen to you. This is also true in science.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

That is true, but it is not the ideal situation.

Galileo made a great discovery but everyone was against it, too

Because he disagreed with the ruling group of that day. The same situation exists today, the new church is science. Disagree with them and you see what happens.

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

The fact is that Galileo was correct.

Gilbert could be correct too

Re: More Interesting Conversation - Why does the society avoid them?

That I am not arguing about. I am not an expert on compression theory so I do not know who is right and who is wrong exactly. I have an opinion.
