im so lost. I have been staring at this page for over an hour.

im stuck on step 3

i need to find the square root of 23749.98

#step 1 first we write it in pairs starting left from decimal point and to the right of decimal point easy

#step 2 then find a perfect square of 2 and book says only 1 is smaller so i place the 1 above and below radical (not sure if right word)

STEP #3 next i thought we had to see how many times 2 would go into the first two digits of the new radicand 1 37 ?? so 2 goes into 13 = 6 times why is this book saying 5 times arghh i dont get it >< plz aware me

Hi bronxsystem;

That method is so bad I would only use it if they put a gun to my head. Luckily, it is one of the bad things in my life that I no longer remember. I can not teach it to you and you should wait until someone else comes in who can do it.

In the meantime, check this page out:

phew lol my brain was going to explode like trying to squeeze a triangle into a circle hole.

thanks for the link but any chance you can take a glance at this method

http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/52610.html

it seems simple and i got the hang of it pretty quickly

i will go through the link you sent now thank you very much

EDIT : both seem really similar ^^

If you got it from that page and understand it then use it.

Hi;

If you want to use something better look here.

http://www.mathsisfun.com/square-root.html

It is under "A Fun Way to Calculate a Square Root"
