Inform 7Inform 7 is a programming language which uses natural language for programming and is used to create interactive fiction games in the Zcode or Glulx format. It is not just a language or a compiler but also a full featured IDE for the same purpose. Code:The World is a room. Every turn, say "Hello World!" It is much much better than other languages like TADS 3 or Quest for this purpose. Last edited by Agnishom (20131117 03:39:59) 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. Re: Inform 7Hm, I want to learn this one. It would be interesting to create my own textbased game. But, first, I need a plotline. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #3 20131130 13:39:54
Re: Inform 7
That is the same reason that is keeping me from creating mine. 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #4 20131130 14:19:19
Re: Inform 7I have an idea of what it could be based on, but I haven't done any work on it. I don't have enough time. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #5 20131130 14:39:11
Re: Inform 7Okay! Idea, please? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #6 20131130 14:40:21
Re: Inform 7Judging by your last thread the bobbym biography seems indicated. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #7 20131130 14:43:26
Re: Inform 7Hmm, text adventures are traditionally RPGs (though programming a different genre might be possible). The Player is going to be bobbym? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #8 20131130 14:45:18
Re: Inform 7What player? The HERO of course better suits me. I slay reppies, marry the Diaz and solve every math problem before they are even posed. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #9 20131130 14:45:23
Re: Inform 7Well, I have this hanging FRP idea about a priest of a Sun God who becomes possessed by something so there is an imbalance in the length of day and night. If you get a Gothic horror setup to go along with it, you should get an interesting basic underlying plot line. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #10 20131130 14:55:03

Re: Inform 7That is why I never wrote one of those games. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #12 20131130 15:03:24

Re: Inform 7DId you examine the list on the wall? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: Inform 7Yes, but I have never been interested in writing games in general. I only wrote one real game and it was an alien shooter up type. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #16 20131130 15:16:22
Re: Inform 7
I did not. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #17 20131130 15:17:54
Re: Inform 7Do you believe in the existence of a purpose of existence? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #18 20131130 15:20:11
Re: Inform 7If there isn't, there isn't. If there is, nothing to be done about it, so why bother? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #19 20131130 15:21:22
Re: Inform 7Hmm, and do you like transparent soap? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #20 20131130 15:24:56
Re: Inform 7What's with the transparent soap? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #21 20131130 15:28:00
Re: Inform 7Hohohohohohohoho, transparent soap is the topic of the day. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #22 20131130 15:41:54
Re: Inform 7Why? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #24 20131130 17:45:42
Re: Inform 7No, why is it the topic of the day? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #25 20131130 17:55:21
Re: Inform 7I do not know, I will ask Agnishom. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.
