Re: value of 'e'

Maybe I should open a thread inviting stefy to teach me Maxima?

I do not know much more about it than you.

Re: value of 'e'

But you can surely guide me through the programming in it

pappym used to say, "when the student is ready the master will appear." The real quote is, "when the master is ready the student will appear." My quote,"when the mathematician is ready the CAS will appear."

Re: value of 'e'

My question is 'How to be ready?'

Is there a Maxima forum?

Re: value of 'e'

My question is 'How to be ready?'

I think I could partially answer that but not without influencing you. That would be wrong.

About a forum? There maybe, I do not know. Maxima is rather poor when it comes to documentation and support.

Re: value of 'e'

Okay, I have sandboxed myself.

How to be ready now?

Re: value of 'e'

You already know how to program in several languages. Using Maxima in the same way you would use Pascal is a mistake. They are not the same, even though you can use a screwdriver as a hammer, it is not a hammer.

The purpose of a CAS is to get you to think mathematically even about programming problems. In other words to combine programming and math to get results neither can get alone.

Re: value of 'e'

Okay, but how do I stop thinking like a programmer and start thinking like a mathematician?

Re: value of 'e'

That was a long process for me. I originally became a programmer to do math problems I could not do using math. Then I found out that using math I could speed programs up by thousands of times, so I went back and forth. I am still working on it and it has been 23 years!

Re: value of 'e'

But how will I get it? I cannot buy it because $139.95 is NaN times my monthly earnings($0.0).

Re: value of 'e'

Yes, I know that. But it only comes in at about 1 GB and you should have enough to spare that. Also you can ask for wolfram to send you a CD.

In the meantime until you figure it out on your own I will assist you with maxima as best I can.

Re: value of 'e'

If this is not a very private question, how much data do you consume in 24hrs?

Re: value of 'e'

Probably less than 100MB per day, alot less. When I am downloading big files then it is naturally more.

How can that be true? Don't you watch a lot of youtube?

Re: value of 'e'

I think I should request that guy who downloaded the Precise Pangolin for me to download this. Maybe, he should like it because he is a Computer Science student.

Is it possible to run Mathematica on Linux?

Yes, it is possible but I do not know anything about the installation of it.

Re: value of 'e'

which version?

Why is Maxima, MATLAB, SciLab, GNU Octave, etc not enough for the math I will do?

Re: value of 'e'

No one else is using them so it is difficult to help you. There will always be problems in translation. Also, M has more documentation and forums than all of those put together! M also knows more math.

I am not trying to convince you, when you make up your own mind then it will happen.
