Re: Interesting Conversation

When I am sending a letter to my house from a local area, I can use this address:
Agnishom, <House #> <Street Name>, <Pincode>

When I am sending a letter to my house from a different province, I have to use this address:
Agnishom, <House #> <Street Name>,  <Province>, <City> - <Pincode>

When I am sending a letter to my house from a different country, I have to use this address:
Agnishom, <House #> <Street Name>,  <Province>, <City> - <Pincode>, India, Asia

When I am sending a letter to my house from a different galaxy, I have to use this address:
Agnishom, <House #> <Street Name>,  <Province>, <City> - <Pincode>, India, Asia, Earth, Solar System,<....>, Milky Way

Not using the appropiate scale or precision will either result in the letter reaching in an incorrect area or unnecessary overloading of information which makes communication inefficient

Nice to know that.

Hi bobbym

Do you believe in fatalism/determinism?

Re: Interesting Conversation

Well, the question is basically - Do you believe in free will.

Re: Interesting Conversation

Depends on what you are implying is free will. There are tasks that are clearly impossible, free will does not exist there. But for everything else we do.

Re: Interesting Conversation

While the terms are often used interchangeably, fatalism, determinism, and predeterminism are discrete in stressing different aspects of the futility of human will or the foreordination of destiny. However, all these doctrines share common ground.

Determinists generally agree that human actions affect the future but that human action is itself determined by a causal chain of prior events. Their view does not accentuate a "submission" to fate or destiny, whereas fatalists stress an acceptance of future events as inevitable. Determinists believe the future is fixed specifically due to causality; fatalists and predeterminists believe that some or all aspects of the future are inescapable, but not necessarily due to causality.

Fatalism is a looser term than determinism. The presence of historical "indeterminisms" or chances, i.e. events that could not be predicted by sole knowledge of other events, is any idea still compatible with fatalism. Necessity (such as a law of nature) will happen just as inevitably as a chance—both can be imagined as sovereign.

Re: Interesting Conversation

Hi Agnishom

Fatalism is the belief that the future is determined and that a man cannot change it. He always does what was supposed to do.

Determinism is the belief in absolute casuality.

Re: Interesting Conversation

Okay, have you heard this story?

Story:
There were two brothers. One of them believed in efforts while the other believed in pure luck.
Because they always quarreled, they were sent to the king.
The king locked them up in a cell.

Now, as usual, the brother who believed in luck remained idle and did not do anything. He believed that he'll be saved, somehow.
On the other hand, the brother who believed in efforts kept thinking and exploring. After a while, he managed to find a shovel that was hidden in one of the corners of the cell. He dug a tunnel out of the cell after spending a lot of time and energy.

Finally, the two brothers escaped the cell through the tunnel.

Effort brother: Without my efforts, we would not have escaped.
Luck brother: See, I did nothing: yet, my luck gave me an way out.

Re: Interesting Conversation

The following is another reason why I use the 'Interesting Conversation' phrase:

A girl with whom I was conversing over the internet was complaining because I couldn't make the conversation interesting. So, I changed the conversation name to "Interesting Conversation" and set the description as "This conversation is interesting". She could complain no more!
