Re: Why silent edit?Hi Agnishom; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #3 20130926 03:44:34
Re: Why silent edit?
It is. 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #4 20130926 03:51:08
Re: Why silent edit?Yes, I make a lot of mistakes when I post. My vision is not good and my left hand is useless to me so typing and checking takes a long time. I usually need to edit a post 3 or 4 times. Because I am an admin there is no timestamp. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #5 20130926 03:55:21
Re: Why silent edit?
I think that is the main problem. Why does it have to be silent for mods and admins? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #6 20130926 03:56:02
Re: Why silent edit?I mean you edit a lot of my posts without leaving a editstamp behind. 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #7 20130926 04:02:15
Re: Why silent edit?I rarely ever edit anyone's post. I believe in free speech. Just posts you and I talk about private matters. When I delete mine I sometimes am forced to edit the post before too. You agree that sometimes this is necessary. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #8 20130926 04:03:55
Re: Why silent edit?I do agree. 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: Why silent edit?Just a privilege that is given to mods. In my case it makes me look smarter than I am. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #10 20130926 04:10:55
Re: Why silent edit?I reckon you do that manually? and the square bracket occurs because you're influenced by the M syntax? Last edited by Agnishom (20130926 04:11:58) 'And fun? Re: Why silent edit? That is good reasoning but I think I got it from MIF. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #12 20130926 04:18:57
Re: Why silent edit?where? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: Why silent edit?He slipped in on post #5 and got buried. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #14 20130926 04:48:09
Re: Why silent edit?Doesn't matter. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #15 20130926 05:04:55
Re: Why silent edit?Do we have silent edit over at your place? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #16 20130926 05:33:44
Re: Why silent edit? There is, and I don't know how to turn it of. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #17 20130926 06:08:46
Re: Why silent edit? That is odd, here we have a checkbox. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #18 20130926 06:18:09
Re: Why silent edit?Well, there is probably one for my forum as well, but I cannot find it. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #19 20130926 06:22:43
Re: Why silent edit?If it is on by default then that means it is the preferred setting. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #20 20130926 07:18:40
Re: Why silent edit?I seem to remember having a choice to turn this on and off ages ago, but I cannot find it now. Also everybody's posts used to say 'last edited at ...' but that seems to have disappeared for me, too. Cannot find anything to suggest I've turned this off. ??? Re: Why silent edit?I see no reason for the edits to be silent. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #22 20130926 07:41:03
Re: Why silent edit?None other than the choice of the mod. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #23 20130926 11:03:18
Re: Why silent edit?
Could you modify the php scripts? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda #24 20130926 11:16:50
Re: Why silent edit?I have no idea. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #25 20130926 11:31:43
Re: Why silent edit?besides, you can be a good mod and add the following line manually: 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' 'God exists because Mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists because we cannot prove it' 'Who are you to judge everything?' Alokananda
