CAS suggestionsI am looking for a CAS available for free download. Currently installing Maxima, but are there any other good ones? Last edited by Shivamcoder3013 (20130404 00:22:59) I have discovered a truly marvellous signature, which this margin is too narrow to contain. Fermat Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. Archimedes Young man, in mathematics you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Re: CAS suggestionsWhat OS are you running? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #3 20130404 01:35:43
Re: CAS suggestionsHow about Sage? 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: CAS suggestionsOr Mathematica? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #5 20130404 02:04:51
Re: CAS suggestionsActually, the OP is talking about free softwares 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: CAS suggestionsSo? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #7 20130404 02:08:35
Re: CAS suggestionsMathematica isn't free 'And fun? If maths is fun, then getting a tooth extraction is fun. A viral infection is fun. Rabies shots are fun.' Re: CAS suggestionsGeogebra also comes with a faster updating maxima built in. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #9 20130404 02:12:29
Re: CAS suggestions
If you say so. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #10 20130404 02:42:50

Re: CAS suggestionsWell, you said it isn't, so, I agree with you. The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #12 20130404 05:18:38
Re: CAS suggestionsMathematica 8 is not free (but I probably can find an illegal free version). Anyways, I am running Windows 8. Maxima is slightly confusing. Anyone know of a good tutorial? I like Maxima as I am currently doing a lot on Linear Algebra. I will try Sage. Is Geogebra only for geometry? I have discovered a truly marvellous signature, which this margin is too narrow to contain. Fermat Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. Archimedes Young man, in mathematics you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Neumann #13 20130404 05:25:18
Re: CAS suggestionsI also used Maxima. It is very nice! The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #14 20130404 05:32:59
Re: CAS suggestionsGeogebra comes bundled with a weaker form of Maxima. What is the problem with Maxima? In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #15 20130404 05:46:15
Re: CAS suggestionsThere is no problem with it. Why? The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment #16 20130404 06:14:49

Re: CAS suggestionsI could have promised this was not in "Help Me"... I have discovered a truly marvellous signature, which this margin is too narrow to contain. Re: CAS suggestionsI already have my "alternative" to Mathematica. Re: CAS suggestionsThat Mathics looks interesting. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it. All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof. #25 20130404 23:29:04
Re: CAS suggestionsWell, with Maxima it took me close to 4 hours to calculate 2+2; I consistently pressed enter and then, with aid from the "10 minute tutorial", realized to press ShiftEnter.
