CAS suggestions

I am looking for a CAS available for free download. Currently installing Maxima, but are there any other good ones?

Re: CAS suggestions

What OS are you running?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Re: CAS suggestions

How about Sage?

Re: CAS suggestions

Or Mathematica?

Re: CAS suggestions

Geogebra also comes with a faster updating maxima built in.

If you say so.

Re: CAS suggestions

Mathematica 8 is not free (but I probably can find an illegal free version). Anyways, I am running Windows 8. Maxima is slightly confusing. Anyone know of a good tutorial? I like Maxima as I am currently doing a lot on Linear Algebra. I will try Sage. Is Geogebra only for geometry?

Re: CAS suggestions

Geogebra comes bundled with a weaker form of Maxima. What is the problem with Maxima?

Re: CAS suggestions

There is no problem with it. Why?

Re: CAS suggestions

Well, with Maxima it took me close to 4 hours to calculate 2+2; I consistently pressed enter and then, with aid from the "10 minute tutorial", realized to press Shift-Enter.
