Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

They are too excited about smilies, in my opinion. Maybe you could only allow to post more smilies in the Guestbook?

The place we usually talk about other stuff is the Guestbook. The place where you said goodbye.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

I have never used one of these, until now, and probably never will again, but this onefaint is perhaps the funniest thing that I have seen in quite some time.  I can't see any harm in keeping them around other than creating yet another crutch which further erodes the capacity for one to communicate succinctly with others.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Just a small suggestion, I don't know if this has been brought up before. Could we have a macro smiley system, ie more then one smiley at the same place. If for instance 2 smileys are put after eachother, couldn't they take the place of one and flipp? with the use of a last speed smiley or so, (3),(2) or (1) that controls the speed of the flip. the standard would be (1).

And in the corner of the macro smilie, a little number or letter (A,B,C) could reveal what smiley in the line you are watching.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

While that would be nice, and clean up the forum a bit, I'm afraid it won't work.

The shortcuts to maths symbols on this site, such as ±, ≤, π, etc, are all technically smilies, and there are situations when it's required to post more than one of them in a row.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Yes, okay. So there is no way to get past that, not even if you could toggle or deny certain smilies the possibility of switching?

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Well, possibly. It seems like it would be quite hard to code up, but MathsIsFun will know about that better than me. Either way, he's waiting for the PunBB update to be released, which will allow him to make modifications to the forum much more flexibly.
