Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined? That is the point! It is one, I agree! But it is also .9999999999... Do it term by term, it is .9 + .09 + .009 + .0009 + .00009 + .000009 + ... + obviously .99999999999... and you used the geometric sum to say it equals 1. In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #52 2013-02-07 21:38:27
Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined? There is no reason that that sum should be equal 0.999... The limit operator is just an excuse for doing something you know you can't. “It's the subject that nobody knows anything about that we can all talk about!” ― Richard Feynman “A secret's worth depends on the people from whom it must be kept.” ― Carlos Ruiz Zafón #53 2013-02-07 21:40:52
Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined?
Please look at the preceding post again. That sum produces an endless bunch of nines! You said it was one because you used this formula sort of shows that if we do not agree with .999999999... = 1, we have to give that up. I do not want to give it up. It works! In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on. #54 2013-02-07 21:49:07
Re: 0^0 equals 1 or undefined? No, no. I disagree that that sum is equal to 0.999...
