Re: Bafflers?

That could be a trick part of the question and maybe not.

That problem was given to me as part of a much bigger problem.

Re: Bafflers?

You mean, you want all 16 solutions?

The problem is a standard elementary school one... I think you ought to post the bigger problem...

Re: Bafflers?

I am only aware of 2 solutions! How the heck can a problem with 16 solutions be elementary?

Re: Bafflers?

12 of them are just rotations of 4 other, and of those 4, 2 are the mirror images of the other two, so, it's not as bad as it sounds...

Are you aware you are using the top side ( one side ) of the square?

Re: Bafflers?

Nope, 2.

Is that what you meant by orientation?

I think the drawing indicates that E is outside of the square.

Re: Bafflers?

No, there are 2. One is shown in the picture and the other isn't...

Hmmm is there another that keeps the proportions?

Re: Bafflers?

Look at the drawing. The short side is on the left. Remember, 3:4:5. Unus solutio.

Re: Bafflers?

In the other solution it is also on the left and all proportions are the same. Duo solutio!

Hmmmm?! Talk is cheap as we say over here. You will now have to produce those two solutions.

Re: Bafflers?

I will, but tomorrow or at the weekend.

Basically, the mirror image of point E in BC is also a valid solution...

Re: Bafflers?

I am not seeing that. The little side BE will always be on the left and E will always be on top.

Re: Bafflers?

When did we agree not to take the solution inside the square?
