hi jamesjames1

eeeekkkkk!  You really want this?

If this isn't a joke, perhaps you could tell us where it came from?

Don't know if this has a character limit:

Hi Bob

I checked. It allows me to enter the expression, but it just gave me a straight line. hmm

Try entering it into a 3D plotter.

Bob

Welcome to the forum!

well its not a joke i got it from a friend of mine, who sent it with a note that said graph and connect the dots?
anyway my friend kinda went missing about 3 months ago and i wasn't really sure what the deal was if it was a joke or something he made
i'm sure its not related but i still would like to know what it is and i my knowledge of math isn't near as sharp as what i have seen on this forum
so i thought i would ask

came for the answer...stayed for more questions

so anything would be killer i really have no idea what it is or could be a picture of ???

Re: need this graphed so i can see what it is please

hi Stefy,

I checked. It allows me to enter the expression, but it just gave me a straight line.

Do you have a text version of the expression?  (to save my typing finger)  smile

hi jamesjames1

If Stefy can give me the expression, I'll work on it.

(Straight line seems unlikely ... maybe adjust the scale)

Also does the grapher plot it all or just truncate the expression?  We'd need to check with MIF.

Hi Bob

I pressed 10X Out two times and it still graphed a line.

Let me type it up again. roflol

Hi Bob

Here you are:

(x-2)^2*(y-2*x+2)^2*(y+2*x-10)^2*(x-4)^2*(x-6)^2*((y-4)^2+abs(x-5)+abs(x-7)-2)^2*((y-2)^2+abs(x-5)+abs(x-7)-2)^2*(x-8)^2*((y-2)^2+abs(x-8)+abs(x-10)-2)^2*(x-11)^2*((y+x/2-19/2)^2+abs(x-11)+abs(x-13)-2)^2*((y-x/2+7/2)^2+abs(x-11)+abs(x-13)-2)^2*(x-16)^2*(x-18)^2*((y-3)^2+abs(x-16)+abs(x-18)-2)^2*((x-20)^2+(y-3)^2-1)^2*(x-22)^2*((y+x/4-19/2)^2+abs(x-22)+abs(x-24)-2)^2*((y-x/8-1/2)^2+abs(x-22)+abs(x-24)-2)^2*((y+5*x/8-17)^2+abs(x-22)+abs(x-24)-2)^2*((y-x/2+21/2)^2+abs(x-25)+abs(x-27)-2)^2*((y-3)^2+abs(x-25)+abs(x-27)-2)^2*((y-x/2+19/2)^2+abs(x-25)+abs(x-27)-2)^2*(x-28)^2*((y-2)^2+abs(x-28)+abs(x-30)-2)^2*((y-3)^2+abs(x-28)+abs(x-29)-1)^2*((y-4)^2+abs(x-28)+abs(x-30)-2)^2*((y-x/2+27/2)^2+abs(x-31)+abs(x-33)-2)^2*((y-3)^2+abs(x-31)+abs(x-33)-2)^2*((y-x/2+25/2)^2+abs(x-31)+abs(x-33)-2)^2+(y^2-6*y+8+sqrt(y^4-12*y^3+52*y^2-96*y+64))^2=0

Tried it once more, it just returned a blank plane. I also tried it with Maxima and it said the expression evaluates to non-numeric values for each value of x in the range from -1000 to 1000 (although I wouldn't guarantee that this result is true).

One of your terms is incorrect. If you check you will find it.

Re: need this graphed so i can see what it is please

hi jamesjames1

The equation is extremely complex ... probably the most complicated any of us has seen.

There are graph plotters that will show the shape of an equation ( for example, x squared + y squared = 25 makes a circle ).

But these rely on computer coding and I would expect there would be a 'size of equation' limit.

So what does the graph plotting software do if the equation is too big for it?  Does it make a plot that is wrong or
give an error message.

The Maths Is Fun website has a plotter and it doesn't give any error.  Stefy says it gave a straight line but I got a line of dots.

This suggests the plotter is not giving a genuine picture of the graph.

Your friend must have used a plotter as it would take several lifetimes to do this 'by hand' !

I'll ask MIF, who wrote the software, about this.

Hi jamesjames1;

No plotter seems to want to do the job so I did it manually. I think it is quite close to the correct picture. If you agree I can extend the picture.

Hi bobbym

The second part looks like "horse" are you sure vertical lines aren't missing?
