Re: Find the general term!!!

Well,if I decode it then tell you what it does, you can search for the Maxima equivalent.

Re: Find the general term!!!

Those are a lot of ifs. Usually that means a dismal failure...

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it.
All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.

Re: Find the general term!!!

The algorithm to go from a generating function to a recurrence is pretty straight forward unfortunately I usually go the other way.

Re: Find the general term!!!

I like constructing the reccurence and than getting the GF too,but I don't know how to go the other way round.

Seems nothing came out of this one.

An algorithm for converting sequences to GFs and vice versa.

Re: Find the general term!!!

There is always a way to do something like that if you are willing to make some concessions.

But here we are back at the crossroads of experimental mathematics, discrete mathematics, computer math. Just because mathematica can do it easily does not imply there is a good hand method!

Re: Find the general term!!!

No, no, I am looking for something I could implement in Maxima.

What kinds of concessions?

Why is there a " solved" banner over my avatar?!

If you know the form of the gf, then you are there!
