The algorithm to go from a generating function to a recurrence is pretty straight forward unfortunately I usually go the other way.

Of course that result can be rigorously obtained, but who cares?

There is always a way to do something like that if you are willing to make some concessions.

But here we are back at the crossroads of experimental mathematics, discrete mathematics, computer math. Just because mathematica can do it easily does not imply there is a good hand method!
