dice probability

A and B alternately throw a die....The numbers they get on their throws are individually added......the first person to get a overall sum of 10 wins....what is the probability that A wins the game given that it is the first to start the game

Re: dice probability

What happens if they go passed 10?

Re: dice probability

I would go with the guess that they win if they the total 10 or more.

Was I dreaming when I saw justlookingforthemoment post yesterday?

Re: dice probability

I have never seen that person.

I would go with the guess that they win if they the total 10 or more.

That might be the case but probability problems are hard enough without having to deal with ambiguities in the questions.

Well that is the only logical assumption,in my opinion.

I am sure you know justlookingforthemoment. He is a member here. A moderator no less!

Re: dice probability

Yes, but it is your opinion. The probability of one of them reaching exactly 10 is also a legitimate partition question. As for me I do not wish to use an entire afternoon working on the wrong problem.

Re: dice probability

Well, from the wording we can see that there will always be a winner, whichisn't the case when they have to reach exactly 10.

Re: dice probability

Why not? First guy to exactly 10 wins? If both pass, new game. Just saying, a good answer should be preceded by a well thought out question.

Re: dice probability

It states nowhere that there can be a new game, and assuming that seems to me to be a little too far-fetched. But I do agree that bad wording can lead to wasting time and getting wrong answers.

Btw,do you know how to solve a Rubik's cube?

Re: dice probability

Could be, call the other a draw. It is also does not say anything about more than 10.

There are programs to solve Rubik's cubes.

Re: dice probability

Look at it this way. If it was meant to say over 10 it would be a one word mistake. If it was meant to say what you said, that would be.missing.out a whole sentence. So over 10 is more likely to be the wording. And it is more intuitive.

I am asking you if you can solve it.

Re: dice probability

I will wait for juan and a definite answer or more accurately, a definite question.

About the cube:

1) Sorry, but I rarely do anything that a computer can do.

2) With my hands I think I would need a chiropractor standing by and I do not have one.

3) There are already kids younger than you that can do them in around 4 seconds. The worst part is they do not have a sense of humor.

Imust note that there will never be more than 10 throws each.

1)What were then my other questions?

2)How is that question good?

Re: dice probability

1) Your other questions were the questions of a stuck in the mud mathematician.

2) Because perhaps your eyes are opening up to something else.
