Yes, Lisp uses it and so does the big boy on the block, M.

And if Lisp uses it,and Maxima uses Lisp, then maybe Maxima also uses it...

I am not big on jargon or definitions. That is for set theorists, topologists and logicians. To me it means no more loops! Say goodbye to For Next, Do Until, Do While, Loop, Goto...

I hate goto.

But what does it use if not loops?

Pointers are a bane to humanity. My brother was the only programmer that liked them. They are very powerful but too dangerous for the modern programmer so they were eliminated in Java.

The functional way does not need them.

So,do you mean like ordered and unordered lists like in Python? At least I think I saw them there.

Python does do some functional programming.

Wow,any of the people who thought me English would kill me if I said that.

So,how do you use lists for setting up GFs?

You do not use even them to do it. M supports polynomial arithmetic and rational functions. In C++ you write a polynomial class.

Wait,I don't understand what you would do to get the result.

Same thing I was attempting to get you to do in Maxima. M works in the same way.

Oh,the sum function. But wouldn't it be time consuming to write out that many functions?

I think that you would have to let this one to procedural programming, because it is too much to write every function separately.

You could do it but just do not do it by hand.

I wasn't even thinking about doing it by hand. It would be insane. Don't you think I have learned at least a little from you?
