In the dead of winter an old man who is freezing because he has no coat, stumbles down fifth avenue. He happens to see a large limousine pull up and a powerful man is helped out of it. He is an industrial mogul and known to be a conservative.

The old man rushes up to him and says, "please sir, may I have your coat I am freezing." The industrialist looks at the old man with contempt. "Listen, I have 1000 coats in my closet that I never wear but I will not give you mine. I made it through life with hard work and have no pity for you." He pushes the old man down and heads into his favorite restaurant to have dinner.

The old man begins to sob. He is in luck though, another limousine equally large pulls up and another man gets out. He is a powerful politician, a liberal known for his many programs for the poor. The old man rushes over to him and says, "please sir, I know you are a man of the people. I have no coat and I am freezing."

The liberal thinks for a second and beckons to two large bodyguards to get out of the car and come to him. He says to the old man, "I feel for you and will help you." He whispers something to his bodyguards. They immediately cross fifth avenue and grab an old man who is slowly pushing a shopping cart home from shopping. They push him against the wall and remove his coat. He protests but is soon pushed down the street and out of sight.

The bodyguards bring the coat to the politician. He speaks to the old man, "I know you are a victim of society. It is not right that you freeze while I am warm. Here take this coat and go with God." The old man is generous in his thanks and praise. The politician walks past the old man and enters the restaurant.
