Re: which fraction is smaller, -2/7 or -1/3? ty

Hi;

This is not in the right form.

y=2/3=5/12

For the next one:

Subtract 1 / 9 from both sides.

For the last

2/3x=7=ty

which variable do you want to solve for?

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

I agree with you regarding the satisfaction and importance of actually computing some numbers. I can't tell you how often I see time and money wasted because someone didn't bother to run the numbers.

this is the  problem as written on sample test ---Y-2/3=5/12==solve equation and simplify! THE NEXT ONE  IS 2/3x=7  and another x+1/9= -7/9--- i am copying  all these problems from a sample math test---and that is how they  are written! "-D

Hi;

You should notice that in post#1 you have written

y=2/3=5/12

and in post #3 you have

Y-2/3=5/12

these are not the same, that is why I asked.

This one is in a form we can solve for

Add 2 / 3 to both sides.

Do you follow this so far? Are you familiar with how to add to fractions? Or do you need some help with that?
