Snubbed!

http://mathoverflow.net/questions/71092 … t-60-parts

First the world renowned DZ refers to their place as Maths Is Fun. Alright anyone can make a mistake, he is a great mathematician. No fun to be found over there that is for sure. One of them is a moderator elsewhere and pursues me like a hound from hell. No computational boys over there. Best they can do is plug his problem into their favorite CAS.

Of course first they have to form a committee to discuss whether they should even allow such a question. After all it is hard work typing that GF into pari. Some say yes and some say no and some say... yes, you guessed it, Undecidable!

Question is, why did he not bring it here? For one thing I need the 100 dollars.

Re: Snubbed!

Unbelievable that DZ forgot to google!

And people there discussing "Is this question acceptable?", funny!

Re: Snubbed!

hi bobbym,

Glad to hear from you today.  Somehow I missed you yesterday so I was worried about whether you're alright.

Anyway, to business.

Seems to me this group have made a logical contradiction.

In the rules they say

The site works best for well-defined questions: math questions that actually have a specific answer.

But then in the thread:

MathOverflow is designed for people to ask questions to which they do not know the answer, in order to enlist the aid of the MO community.

So you can only post there if you know a question has an answer but don't know what it is.  That's a major limit on what can be posted.  And if anyone challenges a post, how's the poster supposed to prove his post was valid.

One good thing though; they did give Maths Is fun a plug, even if they did spell it incorrectly.  smile

Hi bob bundy;

I am fine just caught up in chores and things. You are correct, their theme is contradictory to me too.

Re: Snubbed!

hi bobbym,

And it's no good trying to tell them this:

MathOverflow is not for questions about MathOverflow.

In fact, doesn't that also rule out anyone trying to object to a post too?

And anyone objecting about someone who is objecting about a post.

And anyone who is objecting about anyone objecting about someone who is objecting about a post.

And ................................... ad infinitum.

So they disappear up their own logical backsides.

Hi,

I agree.

Have you ever seen him lecture?

No, I haven't seen him lecture yet.

Re: Snubbed!

But the user "Shalosh" has no videos, and country and age dowsn't match with that of DZ.

That is strange. Shalosh is definitely him. He used to publish under that name to avoid being turned down.

Yes, youtube. It could be a copycat. But that is an alias he used professionally.

Yes, may be an imposter, if it wasn't linked from DZ's website.

It is linked to his site? Then it is him.

Shalosh was not exactly him. It was programs he wrote. Shalosh Ekhad.

Re: Snubbed!

Shalosh Ekhad was an alias he published articles under. Actually they were computer programs that solved the problems. They are not exactly him but sort of an alter ego.

He has about 10 -15 of them.

I know Shalosh B. Ekhad, isn't it his computer rather than his programs?

I was talking about the videos, which is it that you watched on youtube?
