Flat Earth Society

Hi All

Has anyone heard of this group?
Visited their website and read the physics on there?

Personally I don't see how they can come to the conclusions that they do when it is so well known that when you go very high you can see the curvature of the earth. Also when you go higher than that the earth is quite clearly a sphere.

And all the information they call facts are taken from some 19th century pastor.

Eh???

Re: Flat Earth Society

Hi Dave;

Yep. But did you know that some people do not know that the earth is round? That is not quite the same as believing it is flat.

I love that philosophy. It feels good to know that they believe in something so adoring.

Re: Flat Earth Society

Hi LQ;

Yes, it gives me a warm glow also. I like the flat disk idea, I have always known that the earth is a big Bing Crosby record. When I put my ear to the ground I hear Bing!

Re: Flat Earth Society

Hi guys, no I have not heard of this group before. Or maybe I have an just forgot. Either way, it sounds intriguing. Although I've heard this theory a million times, and it always makes me laugh with insecurity. Then again I always believed it was flat as a small child. But the Earth being spherical seems generally more logical.
But I did see a theory that we were on the inside of the sphere... (courtesy of Jules Verne) Which creeped me out immensely.
However, I do love the idea of the Earth being flat. And maybe being held up by four elephants, riding on the back of a giant turtle.

Re: Flat Earth Society

Well flat is fine to me. I really do not care what shape it is just as long as locally it is flat enough so that my food does not roll off my plate. I hate chasing rolling food.

Re: Flat Earth Society

All these ways of dealing with the idea are great. After all when they put flat in perspective, I guess the earth is flat all way round and whatever is inside is not earth but more like molten stuff. Throughout the history, earth was probably flat before it formed, so ignoring time maybe it was mostly flat. Like a disc. Perhaps some are alergic to time, it is, after all, a dimension. Maybe that's why they see earth as flat, and then they are quite strong.

Yes, put your ear to the ground on a quiet day.

Re: Flat Earth Society

I went for an interview yesterday. I had to travel 40miles into West London and when I got there (it was supposed to be at a Media Exhibition) the woman at the gate flatly refused to let me in. (Punn Intended). So I went all that way, missed the last bus to my village, walked home in the rain. I think this person definitely would believe that the earth is flat and suspended on four elephants. Or even on the shell of a giant turtle.

Baaaaaaahhhhhhh....

Hi Dave;

Sorry to hear that. Do not let it get you down, I run into people at gates all the time and over here they are armed.

Yes, elephant guarding! If they do not have that they should.

On judgementday they release them, and then the earth will be flat again!  big_smile

Yes, those pink elephants will inherit the earth. But first, they will stamp it flat.

Then they will turn it around and put it on their back a.k.a Terry Pratchet. Maybe the indianamobile sence the magic and becomes a turtle.

Re: Flat Earth Society

That is it! A new cosmology! Right here on MIF. I knew I would get to see it in my lifetime. Indiana Jones and the creation of a new universe. In the second movie he was riding an elephant, I had no idea he was going to create a universe with it.

Re: Flat Earth Society

A flat earth (well, ignoring a few mountains and other anomalies) makes some sense. Those living on the bottom side of the disc would think they were on top, just as the New Zealanders probably think they are on top instead of "down under."

And that solves the mystery of exactly where hell is! We of course are all in heaven. Or have I got things upside down?

Re: Flat Earth Society

Well if there is solar cells on one side, one could have electricity on the other so one can never be certain

Re: Flat Earth Society

They are on giant treadmills with dynamos attached. This is how the electricity is produced in the new order. No need for solar cells.
