Howdy doody!

Hi everyone! My name is Shannon and I'm 24, and I've just recently discovered a love for math. Loved it when I was little, hated it as a teenager, and am currently studying high school math so I can go to university to study astrophysics. smile

None of my friends are math geeks, really, so I thought I would try and find some like-minded people on the wonderful internet!

Hi Shann0n;

Welcome to the forum! You will find loads of geeks here. I meant math geeks.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
Of course that result can be rigorously obtained, but who cares?

Hi ShannOn,

Astrophysics is a wonderful subject. I am sure you would get to know like-minded friends.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi;

What are you reading? A math book I hope!

Re: Howdy doody!

I'm trying to work my way through Stephen Hawking's "Black Holes and Baby Universes" but I'm afraid I don't have the background to completely understand it. It's fun, though!

Re: Howdy doody!

Hi;

Heck, do not let that bother you,
I go through plenty of books without understanding a thing.
Matter of fact if you can go through a book learning one thing that is a big deal.

Re: Howdy doody!

I agree! I think that if I do read a lot of books before I completely understand the subject matter, then when I come back to them with more knowledge I'll already have an idea of what to expect when I re-read them.

Re: Howdy doody!

I do that too. I like to hop around from one to book to another. Yes, it is haphazard but that is how I learn. What do you do? Take them in order?

Re: Howdy doody!

No order, really. I just grab whatever looks interesting! I was actually looking for "A Brief History of Time", but the library didn't have it so I grabbed this one. I just read randomly on whatever interests me!

Have you read anything interesting lately?

Re: Howdy doody!

Hi;

I read " A Brief History of Time". I am currently reading a couple of math books in the hopes of solving some problems I have encountered. Have not read a novel since I picked up those God awful Michael Crichton books.
