Howdy doody!
Hi everyone! My name is Shannon and I'm 24, and I've just recently discovered a love for math. Loved it when I was little, hated it as a teenager, and am currently studying high school math so I can go to university to study astrophysics. 
None of my friends are math geeks, really, so I thought I would try and find some like-minded people on the wonderful internet!

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics.
I am willing to wager that over 75% of the new words that appeared were nothing more than spelling errors that caught on.

I'm trying to work my way through Stephen Hawking's "Black Holes and Baby Universes" but I'm afraid I don't have the background to completely understand it. It's fun, though!

Heck, do not let that bother you,
I go through plenty of books without understanding a thing.
Matter of fact if you can go through a book learning one thing that is a big deal.

I agree! I think that if I do read a lot of books before I completely understand the subject matter, then when I come back to them with more knowledge I'll already have an idea of what to expect when I re-read them.

I do that too. I like to hop around from one to book to another. Yes, it is haphazard but that is how I learn. What do you do? Take them in order?

No order, really. I just grab whatever looks interesting! I was actually looking for "A Brief History of Time", but the library didn't have it so I grabbed this one. I just read randomly on whatever interests me!
Have you read anything interesting lately?

I read " A Brief History of Time". I am currently reading a couple of math books in the hopes of solving some problems I have encountered. Have not read a novel since I picked up those God awful Michael Crichton books.
