My guess is that those square boxes appear when you don't have a certain language pack installed. For instanse, if someone posted in Chinise or Korean, and another member didn't have any of those language packs, those square boxes would appear.

You're right there. The more powerful you become, the more you can do. Megalomaniacs want power, just look at Napoleon and many others. Power means you can force people to do certain things, or even brainwash them.
