Glad you agree!
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Perhaps I was being slightly sarcastic. Perhaps I knew and wanted to bait you.

Indeed. But I took the bait and that makes me just as at fault as you.

Yes, and I knew you would. One of the advantages of being thousands of years older.

Wow Bobbym I did not know that you can Cook that good yes I know how to make Pasta.
Hi Sarah;
I can only cook those few things and I can shop. It is the cleaning I hate!

I hate cleaning, too. But I don't like being too messy either.
Hey, bobbym I has more math!
I understand this a little better now, but I'm not sure about this one:
4( 2x - 3 ) + 8( x - 4 ) = 2( 2x + 6 )
/\
8x - 12 + 8x - 32 = 4x + 12
/\
8x + 8x - 4x = 12 + 32 + 12
/\
12x = 32
/\
12x/1 = 32/12
x = 56/12
x = 4 + 8/12 (simplify)
x = 4 + 2/3
I get mixed up in the steps sometimes... How does it look to you?

Hi misheeru;
Not too good. Please recheck step 3 to step 4!

oh man! I typed in my work wrong from my notes!!
I believe its supposed to be:
8x + 8x - 4x = 12 + 32 + 12
/\
12x = 56
12x/1 = 56/12

The last step is also typed wrong.

you mean the mixed number?

Nope, math is like any other language but stiffer, this statement here:
12x = 56 Fine.
12x/1 = 56/12 you divided both sides by 12, fine. What is 12x / 1 ?

12x?

12x?
Oh, you got ole bobbym there! Good one! I say what is 12x/1 and you say 12x. Primo, Wunderbar!
That is not what I meant. Look at the step before.
12x = 56
What you do to one side you ust do to the other. The ='s sign is like scale. It means both sides are the equal. If it put 40 pounds on the left of the scale I must put 40 pounds on the right to keep it balanced.
Now when divide the right side by 12 you must divide the left side by 12 also.
(12x) / 12 = 56 / 12 Now go from there...

From there I used long division. And a teacher used the 1 under the number with the x in an examlple, thats why I did it... sorry.
Anyways:
12 goes into 54, 4 times with a remainder of 8.
Written as a mixed number it is: (4 + 8/12)
4 goes into both 8 and 12.
divide by 4.
Then I got: 4 + 2/3

Me too. Math has a way of humbling a person. If you think you are great, like those evolutionary biologists then I say to them try mathematics.
But you still have not written the last step. You have not finished the opera and the audience is waiting.

Okay... what last step?
You mean (4 + 2/3)?

Now then, what is "Wunderbar"?
