Curious about a dog

I've seen this dog in the website loads of times, and naturally I got curious.
I'm going to ask this real fast - what's the dog's name, what breed is it, and what happened to it?

I believe the dog is named Sage. I'm not sure how/why I have this information – it just occurred to me. I think it's Rod (the website owner)'s pet.

Rod's username is MathsisFun and that dog is his avatar.  I don't know it's name nor if Rod has it as a pet.

Hey, good eye! The dog you're seeing is actually part of the site's charm — I believe it’s been a mascot for quite a while. From what I remember, it’s a golden retriever (or something similar), but I don’t think there’s ever been an official name or backstory shared publicly. Just one of those fun, friendly touches that’s stuck around
