Properties of Real Numbers...Part 3

Commutative Properties

a + b = b + a

a • b = b • a

Why does this property not apply to subtraction and division?

Associative Properties

a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c = a + b + c

a (b • c) = (a • b) c = a • b • c

Why does this property not work for subtraction and division?

Re: Properties of Real Numbers...Part 3

Just come up with counter examples.

eg.  5 - 3 ≠ 3 - 5

If y > x, then y - x does not equal x - y.
