Commonwealth of Independent States
Cubic Inch per Second
Christians in Science (pretty crazy guys huh)
Cebu International School (in the Phillipines)

#106 Re: Jokes » The "Stupid" boy » 2013-06-18 01:29:14

No. This joke has been there for years, with the variation about the American president who, while was a child, was asked by people to choose between a nickel and a dime. A dime worth twice but it's smaller than a nickel. The president constantly chose the nickel, and when one traveller asks him why, he said he was investing for the long term.
That is just the variation told in vietnam since the 80s.

Wikipedia helps this way.

How old is this guy? This corresponds to VN grade 9. The teacher forces my grade 6 son to read the grade 9 textbook. Now he can do it. It looks obvious.

Welcome to this place.
What do you mean by 'CIS'? I only know Commonwealth of Independent States.

#111 Re: Jokes » The "Stupid" boy » 2013-06-17 21:02:32

It is a way different condition. I live in the part of the suburbs than is in transition. I live in administrative Hanoi, which includes several countryside and mountainous area. I live in Ha Dong, an urban district, but it used to be capital for a separate province, and even now it's still not considered a 'central' area by businessmen. But they plan to be, and the whole district is full of contruction sites, new urban communities and new roads. Luckily the economic crisis and the freeze of the real estate market slowed the growth.

.In Vietnam they charge around 2USD per good haircut. Charge for children is half, and they charge hairwashing separately. Shaving is free bonus if asked for.

If you'd like, look at the problem from my post in the Help Me! Forum.
Now, I am looking for algorithm to use in Pascal/Python/whatever to compute those values. I have no knowledge in programming, so help me!

#116 Re: Euler Avenue » Limit » 2013-06-16 02:24:02

Yup. It is 0. Probably you mean there should be a sign (negative or positive) for infinity? Not needed in this case.

#117 Re: Help Me ! » what is the last digit? » 2013-06-15 23:49:22

How did you calculate all this?

#118 Re: Help Me ! » multiplication of polynomials by a trinomial » 2013-06-15 16:46:35

Polynomial division techniques can be found on the main website. Type 'polynomial division' into the search box.

#119 Re: Help Me ! » multiplication of polynomials by a trinomial » 2013-06-15 16:23:14

Prove that by cross multiplication. Multiply right hand side in Bobbym's equation with your trinomial. That's it.

We're switching around to something else later for sure.

#121 Re: Help Me ! » Prime numbers » 2013-06-15 16:11:10

One more problem:
I have checked  the prime numbers table <6000. The number of prime quadruplets are 9 (excluding 5-7-11-13), and the number of near-quadruplets (i.e. exactly one number missing, if this number is added it makes a 10k+1, 10k+3, 10k+7 and 10k+9 quadruplet) is 37.
37/9=4.25 rounds to 4 = 4C3 (combination without repetition). Interesting!

#123 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Religious discussion » 2013-06-15 14:04:54

That means the religious percentage in Norway is higher than both others. And again, religiousity in Scandinavia is complex. Church members are >80% for 2 reasons: good charity activities and nationalism sense as part of a wider movement for a national, historical identity. They are willing to identify themselves as church members, but if you look at the Gallup poll on Importance of Religion, less than 20% says religion is important. Many people near the places I stayed there are church members, but never ever go to church. And Scandinavia is also liberal minded. Would a country with more than 80% Christians legalisms math in 1968? Homosexual partnership in 1989? Ahead of all others? I don't think so.

#124 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Religious discussion » 2013-06-15 02:53:04

Well I have data that says Norway is the most religious out of the 3 countries. And religiousity is a complex subject in Scandinavia. The majority of church members in Scandinavia don't believe in Jesus, just for the record.

#125 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Religious discussion » 2013-06-15 01:58:09

the video have nothing to do with atheism.
The data link is in my computer. But lookingat the good welfare, stable economy, high living standards... would tell you that immediately.
And I have been to Denmark twice, Norway and Sweden one each. Friendly people, great sense of nationalism and independence and clean place are my main views.
