equations for circles

Write down an equation or equations for each of the following.

a.      A curve produced due to the intersection of a circular cylinder and yz-plane. Center of this circular cylinder is x-axis (that is, cylinder is around x-axis) and its radius is one.

b.       A curve produced due to the intersection of a sphere, center at origin and radius 3, and xy-plane.

I can't really think of a proper "method" to do this.
You just picture what each solid looks like, and figure out what their intersection curve would look like.

In this case, they're both circles so their equation would be a² + b² = r², where a and b are x, y or z and r is a constant.


Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
