two algebra problems

My daughter brought home algebra problems as HW tonight.  We think we used PEMDAS correctly but came up with different answers to the first two problems.  Can someone help us before we go on?  Here are the first two problems on the worksheet:

9 + 6 x (7 - 3) x 2 to the 3rd power = either 480 or 201 ??

3 to the 3rd power x (6 + 4) - 5 + 10 = either 165 or 275 ??

Many thanks!

Re: two algebra problems

First problem:

Start with the 7-3, that equalling 4
Next do 2^3 = 8

So now you have:

9 + 6 x (4) x 8

Next, multiplication from left to right (don't add the 9 yet):

6 x 4 x 8 = 192

Now add your 9:

192 + 9 = 201

Follow the same processes for the next one and you can see where the 275 comes from smile
