Help with dividing

This should be easy but haven't done this for yonks and maths weren't my strong point,however dividing i was not to bad at.The problem is i'm hoping to join the pts and there is some maths work in it some one gave me some samples and the answers to go with it the problem is trying to farthom how you get the answer.For example 4218 divided by 18.Now i'm sure the 42has to be divide by 18 any help will be appreciated.

When you do long division, it is good to
get started by taking the 18, and double,
triple, quadruple it etc... 
1x18=18
2x18=36
3x18=54
4x18=72
Now we can begin.
4218,
how many times does 18 go into 42?
use the 36, so 2 times. (2 in the answer)
42-36=6
now put the 1 after the 6.
61...
how many times does 18 go into 61?
Use the 54 above.  (3 in the answer)
61-54=7
put the last 8 after the 7
78...
how many times does 18 go into 78.
Use the 72 above.
4 times. (4 in the answer)
78-72=6
remainder = 6/18, which is 1/3 or .333333 for the ending part.
So answer is 234.3333333333333333 or 234 and 1/3.
