Re: Help With A Maths Puzzle!

Jane's thinking too hard. The four box-groups don't form a sequence with each other, the same simple rule is applied to all of them.
Multiplying the top two boxes and seeing what you get is a good place to start though.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: Help With A Maths Puzzle!

To get the number below the two boxes above, follow the procedure below..
Let the two numbers in the top boxes be 'a' and 'b'. Multiply 'a' and 'b' and call it 'x'. Then, divide 'a' by 3 and multiply it with 'b' and call it 'y'. Now just add 'x' and 'y' and you get the number in the bottom centre box!!

That's only just one of the multiple possibilities... smile

That can be simplified to

.  I initially fell into the same trap Jane did and thought of the boxes in a sequence (and came up with the same, incorrect, answer too dizzy).

Re: Help With A Maths Puzzle!

It IS 56
Take the left number (i.e. 6,9,12,3) and times it by 4/3.
Then multiply the subsequent number by the right number (i.e. 4,7,6,14)

So how you get the answer is

3 x 4/3=4

4 x 14 = 56
