Re: Euro 2008

33′: Germany 0-1 Spain. Fernando Torres with the opening goal! smile

That, by the way, is Torres’s 3rd goal of the tournament. big_smile

Re: Euro 2008

Half-time: I think Spain deserves to be in the lead in the interval. They are marginally the better the better side in the first half. cool

Re: Euro 2008

THAT’S IT!!: SPAIN ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF EURO 2008!! big_smile

It wasn’t an exciting final though. The Germans were awful, and Spain didn’t have to do much to defend their first-half goal. neutral

Re: Euro 2008

Same. big_smile

Final was a bit boring. Honestly, if Spain hadn't made so many silly mistakes, then they could have easily made it 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 or perhaps even 6-0.

All teams have their rise and fall - it looks like Germany have finally fallen, and there's a new titan in town.

Re: Euro 2008

Germany have on the whole been disappointing in the tournament. They had only one good match, which was the quarterfinal against Portugal. In their group games, they had results against the mediocre teams of Austria and Poland, but lost to Croatia. In the semifinal against Turkey, they did just enough to beat their opponents in 90 minutes. As for the final, well, I can’t remember a single save that Iker Casillas had to make, which probably speaks for itself. When the goal scorer Torres was substituted, you could even hear Luis Aragonés thinking aloud: That’s it, the way the Germans are playing this game definitely won’t be going into penalties, so we can rest our best striker now, don’t have to keep him on to take penalties later. roll

Re: Euro 2008

Well, it's lucky that it didn't go to penalties. Germany have never missed a penalty shot since the 1982 World Cup. They are by far the best team at taking penalties ever to have existed.

I'm really glad Spain won, they deserve it after 44 years. <3

Re: Euro 2008

Yeah. And in the Quarter-Final, Febregas really helped by scoring that winning penalty. In one moment, he got sent Buffon going the wrong way, the ball going right into the perfect spot in the net, sent the fans in an uproar, alarmed the Prince of Spain and got them through to the Semi Final! And the best part of it was, that was the first time he had actually taken a penalty. No wonder he was muttering subtle prayers and kissing the ball! You know what they say - you can always rely on a gunner to score a penalty. Lucky they kept all their best penalty shooters on, though. I'm also glad that it didn't go to penalties for the final, otherwise Germany would have either mauled them or broken their chain record of never missing a single penalty since 1982. Honestly, I have to say ... this Euro 2008 tournament has been completely unbelievable. Not once did I think the underdogs - Turkey, Russia - would all make it to the Semi Final! And to be honest, Turkey and Germany are quite evenly matched. Germany were lucky to score their third goal to make it 3-2 in the ninety-first minute. A brilliant tournament, and it really has made me look forward to the upcoming tournament - the big one - the UEFA World Cup 2010. I can't wait ... !
