Trig Identities HELP!

Middle aged student totaly lost when it comes to Math, but I have to have it. ALL help is welcomed!

Here we go:

2 cot x / 1 + cot^2x =?

Of course I have to find out the "?".   I thought of using the Pythagorean Identities for the denomintor of csc^2x but it seem to defeat the purpose.

just multiply the denominator and numerator with sin^2x.
