Linear Algebra help needed!

Here's the question:

First, show linear independence.  This is pretty simple, you just go by the standard definition, sum each vector with a different coefficient in front setting it equal to 0 and show that the coefficients must equal 0.  Once you do this, you can claim you are done.  Why?
