favorites icon?

just a small suggestion here.

many websites have a little icon that appears before their name when you put them on your favorites bar. The Math Is Fun forum doesn't seem to have one. I think it should!

I'm not sure how you do that, but.. just a suggestion! cool

Re: favorites icon?

yeah! Maybe we could ask the person who uploaded that artwork in guestbook to lend it to mathisfunforum?

Re: favorites icon?

Understand fully! And easy to do ... just needs a nice, small (16x16 and 16 colors) graphic.

Re: favorites icon?

So what should it look like? a couple of jumbled arithmetic symbols? Or perhaps a single symbol such as summation or integral?

Re: favorites icon?

Well I've been thinking about it for a while. Its difficult. 16x16 is hardly enough room to draw anything except a single small object. There isn't room for an equation or formula. I thought of geometric shapes or the dye pictured above, but there's really only room for one. You can for instance draw a cone, a circle, a triangle, a graph of a line, etc. but none seemed fitting.

After much deliberation i produced this. Not only is it simple, practical, and clearly describes what this site is about, it has a determinant!

What do you think?

Re: favorites icon?

I think a polygon would be good, like the octahedron in the top banner

Re: favorites icon?

I tried doing that but its quite hard to fit into a 16x16 inch drawing and still be able to tell what it is. Possible, maybe, but hard!

Re: favorites icon?

on second thought.. this actually doesn't look too bad.

Just a bit small.

Re: favorites icon?

An infinity symbol might also look good. Or the set braces {}.

Re: favorites icon?

How about an infinity symbol inside a pair of set braces?

Seriously, however, the infinity symbol would be very nice

Re: favorites icon?

I agree with the 8-sided dice idea, if it's possible to make it small enough and recognisable.
Edit: (By which I mean the icon on top of the forum.)

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: favorites icon?

It also needs to be in ".ico" format.

Re: favorites icon?

It looks like everyone wants the semitransparent, 8 sided dye from the top of the forum.

Re: favorites icon?

I'll give 500 bucks to anyone who can tell me what this is without having seen this thread lol this isn't even 16 color.

I'd like to be proven wrong but I'm pretty sure an 8 sided dye is far too complex to be drawn in 16x16.

Yeah, how about a bluish background for the infinity symbol?

Re: favorites icon?

Hey! I noticed the icon now appears before the URL in my adress bar, but it still hasn't appeared in favorites. Was everything set properly?

(edit) Hey! Now its up there! Awesome! Looks great! smile

Re: favorites icon?

Hey cool!

It looks nice as a favorites icon and as a tab icon, but I think in the address bar it doesn't look very clean cut, there are a few white lines. Oh well, I think it's just mee... I need to wear glasssses
