Hi All

I have just discovered this website.
I am a teaching assistant in UK Primary school.
I have just started new job in September supporting Year 6 (10-11 yrs) which I have never done before.
The class I support for maths is all low achievers ( 2-3 years below expected level) and I am looking for some practical activities to use with them.
Numicon has already been suggested to me and I have used this before but not with Y6!!
I am also studying for my final year of an e-learning degree in Learning, Research & Technology and would like to use practical maths as part of my final years research.
Hoping to find inspiration here:-)

Hi! Buy a lot of Necco Wafer candies that they make in Massachusetts.
Hope you can get them in the UK.
Then you can make up counting games because they are disks of many colors, and they
can eat them (subtraction).
I've never counted how many Necco Wafers each kid would get, but there are
about 27 to 33 I bet in each roll.  Wash your hands and use paper plates, and
have them try to make up interesting shapes and drawings and then count up
the necco wafers that make up their drawings.
Math learning will begin with simple fun and memorable experiences and
discover things with your hands projects.  You don't even have to know
what your students will discover exactly because the permutations are
endless.
