A chat board? You mean like a forum, in some ways? Well, seeing as it is a mathematically-based website anf forum, making an IRC may draw users away.

Put it this way. A lot of places have IRCs these days. You could go to any other IRC on the internet. Putting an IRC here would result in a lot of people overusing them, abusing them, and even being drawn away from Maths Is Fun. If you're looking for 'math-chat', then you may make a mathematically-based post here as long as it is of any importance, significance or interest.
