Is this correct?

A piece of wire 24 cm long is cut into two parts. One piece is bent into a circle with circumference 3x cm. The remainder is bent into an rectangle. The length of the rectangle is 2a cm and its width is a cm.

A) find an expression for a in terms of x.

The perimeter of the rectangle = 24-x
2*2a + 2*a = 24 - x
6a = 24-x
a= (24-x) / 6
a = 4 - (x/6)

Is this correct?

Thanks

Re: Is this correct?

Very nearly. You've just made a slight error because you've done it as if the circumference of the circle was x instead of 3x.

Changing that and following through gets you a final answer of 4 - x/2.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
